Kathe Barlow Obituary

In Loving Memory of Kathe Renate Galster Barlow

March 2, 1935 - February 16, 2026

With reverence and tender remembrance, we celebrate the life of Kathe Renate Galster Barlow, of Gainesville, Georgia, who departed this life on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the venerable age of ninety years. Born in Fürth, Germany, on March 2, 1935, to the late Karl and Margarete Bohn, Kathe entered the world amid a century marked by both trial and triumph, and she bore witness to each with a steadfast and gracious spirit.

As a young child, Kathe survived the hardships of World War II in Germany. Those early years, shadowed by uncertainty, cultivated within her a resilience both quiet and enduring. She was one of eight siblings, growing up in a household alive with voices, duties, and shared perseverance. In time, she would carry that same devotion to family into every season of her life.

In Germany, she met the love of her life, Arthur Douglas Barlow. Their union was one of deep affection and shared purpose. They were married in Germany, where they welcomed their two sons, Robert and Bradley, into their arms. When Arthur answered the Army's call to return and be stationed in the United States, Kathe journeyed with him across the ocean to America, embracing a new land with courage and hope. Eventually, they made their home in Rome, Georgia, where both found meaningful work at Berry College.

Kathe devoted many faithful years to Berry College, retiring as Food Service Supervisor. In that role, she served not merely meals, but fellowship and kindness. She labored with diligence and pride, her work reflecting both her discipline and her generous heart.

Beyond her labors, Kathe delighted in life’s simple and joyful pleasures. She found companionship and laughter in line dancing with the Dixie Stompers. She enjoyed bowling, walking, tending her garden, and the cheerful thrill of Bingo. She would lift her voice in karaoke, unafraid of mirth. However, what she cherished above all else was the precious hours spent caring for her grandchildren. Arthur Barlow, Carson Patterson, Collin Barlow, Dawson Barlow, Margaret Barlow, Jessica Barlow, and Josh Barlow were recipients of her steady affection and guiding presence.

Kathe was preceded in death by her beloved husband, as well as three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her devoted sons, Robert Charles Barlow and Bradley Douglas Barlow; her cherished grandchildren; and one living brother.

Those who knew Kathe remember not only her strength but her gratitude. She possessed a gracious spirit that shone in the smallest gestures.

Whenever kindness was shown to her, she would respond with a sweet and elegantly measured “Thank you,” spoken in her gentle German accent, a reminder of the homeland that shaped her youth and the gracious character she carried throughout her life.

She was loved by many, and she returned that love freely. Her life, though marked by the tumults of history and the sorrows of farewell, was crowned with faithfulness, industry, and abiding gratitude
